Please read the following information in its entirety.

Feathered Friends Forever is a rescue/refuge and sanctuary for unwanted, neglected or abused companion birds. Due to the history of each of the birds here, it is of utmost importance that the best interest of the bird is represented at all times. Also read the FAQ page under the "About Us" tab for additional information.

The following are some of the reasons why birds are brought to Feathered Friends:

  • Allergies
  • Too messy.
  • Too loud.
  • Destructive.
  • No time for the bird.
  • Started plucking feathers.
  • We had, or are having, a baby.
  • I changed jobs or lost my job.
  • Started biting everyone in the house.
  • Dislikes other household members (wife, husband, children).
  • Was given to us as a gift

Remember that companion birds can be expensive to maintain and live relatively long life spans. Most will outlive all of us. This fact needs to be part of your consideration when adopting a parrot.

Adopting a companion bird is not to be misconstrued as an easy or cheap alternative to purchasing one. The adoption process is lengthy and involves costs to the prospective adopter. There is a nonrefundable application processing fee of $25.00 and if approved by FFF for adoption, the individual or family must then arrange a visit to the facility. Upon approval by the bird who chooses to adopt the potential new family, there are additional adoption fees to recover what FFF has invested in the bird. These costs vary and are specific to each individual bird.

Cages are an important part of the bird's life. Some came here with their own home and that must be purchased separately, along with their other toys. Otherwise we have a number of good used cages available for an additional tax deductible donation. We recommend a supply of the custom mixed food that they all seem to love.

Please note that Feathered Friends Forever will not ship birds. No exceptions!

The best adoptions result from those folks who take their time and get to know the birds first. This means coming to the rescue for a couple of days and spending time with your new friend at the Rescue which is their familiar territory. You must pick up your bird in person and we have carriers available to transport your new companion. If you are using commercial aircraft, be aware that live animals may only be transported in certain weather conditions. Check with your airline for details and applicable fees.
